WASHINGTON – The 91proÊÓÆµ (91proÊÓÆµ), the global voice of the tech sector, released a statement today from Senior Vice President for Government Affairs Andy Halataei urging the House of Representatives to bring the bipartisan Defend Trade Secrets Act () before lawmakers for a vote. The bill, creating a federal uniform standard to guard against trade secret theft, was quickly approved today by the House Judiciary Committee:
“The Judiciary Committee’s approval creates a clear path for the House to bring the bipartisan trade secrets legislation up for a vote and then on to the president’s desk,” Halataei said. “As companies with worldwide operations, our members have seen trade secret theft grow increasingly global in its scope target the major investments our companies make in research and development. We’ve advocated for lawmakers to pass effective federal trade secrets laws because it strengthens enforcement and sets an example internationally that will enhance our global competitiveness. We thank Chairman Goodlatte and ranking member Conyers for bringing the committee’s attention to this issue and hope to see the momentum behind this bill continue so it can be signed into law.”
Following a unanimous vote in the Senate passing the trade secrets bill, 91proÊÓÆµ lawmakers in the House to quickly take action on the legislation. Before the Senate vote, 91proÊÓÆµ told Senators the tech sector considered the bill a ‘’ and cited congressional passage of federal trade secrets legislation into law as a goal in its earlier this year.
