Experience Rio+20 With DESSC

For those in the world of environment and sustainability, Rio+20 has long been on the horizon. The conference finally kicks off next week and will mark the 20 anniversary of the I won’t be there, but DESSC will and we’ll be helping you experience it on , , and this blog.

Our efforts start tomorrow, when we will feature an interview with Administrator Lisa Jackson.   sat down with Jackson to discuss not only her thoughts on Rio+20, but also her views more generally on sustainability and the importance of ICT to sustainability.  Included in her comments are observations on JIUS -- the .  Look for developments on JIUS coming out of Rio next week.  DESSC hopes to help on this initiative moving forward. 

We will follow that up with a blog the next day from  Anna Pavlova concerning Thursday’s and its relevance to Rio+20.

From Saturday onward, we will be discussing the partnership commitment that DESSC is announcing with the , , and , with the support of the U.S. government.  DESSC co-chair Steve Harper will unveil this partnership as part of his participation on a 9 a.m. panel at the , so be looking for his blog on that during the weekend. 

Expect lots of continuing commentary next week on this partnership commitment by DESSC and by our partners.

DESSC will hold two panels at Rio +20 next week. 

Tuesday, June 19 at 2:15 p.m. in Rio (12:15 p.m. ET):  As a part of , being held at the Windsor Barra Hotel, DESSC will participate in a high-profile panel focused on the role of technology in sustainable development.  The experts taking part include:

  • Steve Harper, DESSC co-chair and Global Director, Environment and Energy Policy, Intel Corp.
  • Rob Bernard, Chief Environmental Strategist, Microsoft;
  • Kris Gopalakrishnan, CEO and Executive Co-Chairman, Infosys;

Thursday, June 21, at 12:30 p.m. in Rio (10:30 a.m. ET):  DESSC will hold a panel on “Information & Communications Technology:  The App Store for Sustainable Development.”  For people in Rio, the event is taking place at the .  For those following online, we’ll at .  Our panelists are:
