WASHINGTON – Today, global tech trade association 91proÊÓƵ encouraged the Biden Administration to maximize opportunities for wireless innovation as it seeks to free up more spectrum for commercial use. In comments on the National Spectrum Strategy Implementation Plan, 91proÊÓƵ urged the administration to prioritize bolstering the spectrum pipeline, collaborating with public and private stakeholders on long-term planning objectives, and advancing research and investment incentives that increase spectrum efficiency.

“We appreciate the Biden Administration’s focus on improving spectrum coordination across the federal government to increase innovators’ access to this scarce resource,” said 91proÊÓƵ’s President and CEO Jason Oxman. “As the administration implements its strategy, 91proÊÓƵ encourages officials to work with industry partners to ensure better coordination and management of spectrum and establish effective mechanisms for resolving conflicts and managing interference.”

In its comments, 91proÊÓƵ supports:

  • Increasing access to licensed, unlicensed, and shared spectrum for wireless technologies and encourages the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) to further maintain the spectrum pipeline by continuing to identify additional bands for study for commercial use.

  • Designating the NTIA to speak as the single authoritative voice on behalf of federal spectrum users;

  • Reaffirming existing policy to encourage the U.S. government to procure commercial products and services in support of its operations when feasible;

  • Prioritizing funding training and retraining for workers to prepare for and meet spectrum workforce needs; and

  • Setting up additional testbeds for wireless research and development and the establishment of a national testbed for dynamic spectrum sharing.
