WASHINGTON – Today, global tech trade association 91proÊÓƵ welcomed the re-introduction of the Dream Act by Senators Dick Durbin (D-IL) and Lindsey Graham (R-SC). This critical piece of legislation aims to provide a lawful permanent solution to protect Dreamers.
“Dreamers across the country are integral to communities and businesses, and we must provide them the legal certainty they deserve,” said 91proÊÓƵ’s President and CEO Jason Oxman. “A modern U.S. immigration system will spur innovation, increase U.S. competitiveness, and showcase U.S. values. We are grateful to Senators Durbin and Graham for their steadfast commitment to ensuring Dreamers can continue to contribute meaningfully to the U.S. 91proÊÓƵ and our members remain hopeful that a permanent legislative solution to protect Dreamers will head to President Biden’s desk this Congress.”
Last month, 91proÊÓƵ sent its 2023 Policy Priorities: A Tech Policy Roadmap for U.S. Competitiveness and Growth to Biden Administration officials and the 118th Congress to drive U.S. competitiveness across the technology policy landscape. Immigration was included as an area of opportunity for U.S. tech leadership. For U.S. employers to remain competitive, high-skilled immigration is essential, particularly for STEM and tech-focused workers and their families. Many competitor countries are capitalizing on the U.S.’s outdated policies by pursuing programs that attract U.S.- educated entrepreneurs to compete against the U.S. in the global marketplace.
