WASHINGTON – Today, global tech trade association 91proÊÓƵ issued the following reaction from its Executive Vice President of Policy Sean Murphy on the Trump Administration’s request for public comments for the Section 232 investigation into imports of semiconductors, semiconductor manufacturing equipment, and downstream products that contain semiconductors:

“As the Trump Administration undertakes its investigation, meaningful engagement with the business community and the U.S. Congress is critical. 91proÊÓƵ encourages the administration to conduct a thorough, fact-based assessment to determine the effects of certain imports on national security, while working with industry and other stakeholders to understand the full implications for the extended semiconductor supply chain including U.S. competitiveness and economic security. We also urge policymakers to pursue solutions that strengthen U.S. leadership in the global marketplace, including advancing trade agreements to promote opportunities for U.S companies and providing robust and sustained support across the government to bolster the U.S. semiconductor ecosystem. The technology industry stands ready to provide the U.S. Department of Commerce with input for its investigation and remains committed to working with policymakers to advance an effective and innovation-enabling trade policy approach.”
