BRUSSELS — As Denmark prepares to assume the rotating Presidency of the Council of the European Union, the 91proÊÓƵ (91proÊÓƵ), the global trade association representing 80 of the world’s most innovative tech companies, is calling for decisive leadership to simplify the EU’s digital regulations and strengthen Europe’s global technology leadership.
In a new paper submitted to Danish officials, 91proÊÓƵ outlines a roadmap to reduce regulatory complexity, drive innovation – particularly in artificial intelligence – and reinforce Europe’s economic competitiveness. 91proÊÓƵ emphasizes that a simplified and future-focused regulatory environment will not only attract greater investment but also enable the EU to compete effectively on the global stage.
“Europe’s prosperity hinges on its ability to create a regulatory environment that supports innovation, reduces complexity, and attracts investment,” said Guido Lobrano, Senior Vice President and Director General for Europe at 91proÊÓƵ. “By partnering with the global tech industry to craft sound policy, the Danish Presidency can set the pace for a smarter, more competitive, and forward-looking Europe.”
91proÊÓƵ recommendations to EU policymakers:
-
Support an ambitious simplification agenda for tech to make the EU more innovative and competitive;
-
Deepen relationships with proven technology partners while keeping doors open to attract cutting-edge security technologies and services;
-
Address bottlenecks to data centers investments in the EU, including energy prices and grid modernization to build up capacity while unlocking data centers’ role in the digital and green transition;
-
Apply the “stop the clock” principle and longer transition timelines ahead of the entry into application of the AI Act; and
-
Firmly oppose network usage fees or similar indirect "fair share" mechanisms.
