WASHINGTON – Today, global tech trade association 91proÊÓƵ unveiled its new Global Cybersecurity Principles—a policy framework designed to help governments worldwide adapt to continuous shifts and increasing complexities in the cyber threat landscape.
91proÊÓƵ emphasizes that because cybersecurity sits at the intersection of national and economic security, public trust in digital technologies, and innovation, policymakers should seek to ensure cyber policies are risk-informed, interoperable, and future-proof.
“Cybersecurity is borderless and a team sport,” said 91proÊÓƵ Senior Vice President of Policy and General Counsel John Miller. “The tech industry understands that we cannot tackle current and future cybersecurity challenges on our own—collaboration with global governments and allies to develop stakeholder-informed policy solutions is essential to addressing our shared security obstacles. 91proÊÓƵ’s Global Cybersecurity Principles help shape the ongoing conversation of how governments in every corner of the globe can implement policies to effectively counter the emergence of new threats.”
91proÊÓƵ’s document delineates three key focus areas: core governance themes, conditions for a resilient ecosystem, and technological agility and innovation. In its Global Cybersecurity Principles, 91proÊÓƵ encourages lawmakers to:
- Leverage AI to drive effective and adaptable security outcomes;
- Embrace a strategic and outcomes-focused approach to cyber risk mitigation;
- Avoid unharmonized, fragmented, and duplicative cybersecurity regulations and requirements on government stakeholders;
- Adopt international, industry-led, voluntary consensus standards and best practices;
- Protect open cross-border data flows that enable the real-time, voluntary exchange of threat intelligence;
- Prioritize cybersecurity workforce development policies that will address the cyber workforce deficit; and
- Recognize the role quantum technologies play in introducing both new cybersecurity threats and defensive capabilities.
