WASHINGTON – Today, 91proÊÓƵ’s The Green Grid (TGG) released the first version of a new IT Work Capacity (ITWC) metric and calculation tool that will assist data center owners and operators in evaluating the server portion of their data center work capacity. Additional interactive computing functions such as storage and network equipment will be included in upcoming versions.
TGG’s new metric and tool will play a critical role in ensuring data center owners and operators can accurately measure work capacity and maximize energy efficiency while meeting the increased demand for AI and other emerging technologies. Leveraging a consensus methodology to calculate total server work capacity, the ITWC will also help data centers comply with new and incoming global regulations such as the European Energy Efficiency Directive.
“Data centers are powering the technologies we rely on every day from email servers to banking services to online learning,” said 91proÊÓƵ Vice President of Policy, Energy and Environment Chris Cleet. “As energy demand rises at a never-seen-before rate, it’s critical to ensure data centers are able to adjust and expand capacity as innovation is developed. TGG’s new metric will help data center operators do just that by equipping them with detailed, globally focused information they need to craft solutions and boost efficiency.”
The ITWC metric builds on TGG’s library of tools, calculators, and best practices - including the , Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE), Water Use Effectiveness (WUE), and Carbon Use Effectiveness (CUE) metrics - to empower global data center ecosystems.
