WASHINGTON – Today, global tech trade 91proÊÓÆµ released a new policy guide for public sector use of AI. The document, Building an AI-Powered Government: A Blueprint for U.S. Federal, State, and Local Policymakers, aims to inform U.S. federal, state, and local policymakers approach to designing sound policies that advance responsible AI innovation and realize the technology’s immense public sector benefits.

Importantly, U.S. governments at each level are simultaneously contemplating how to develop new AI policies that can modernize government operations and improve constituent service delivery. ITI stresses that lawmakers will need sound policies that aim to build trust and increase efficiency across the public sector while ensuring that the government maintains access to cutting-edge commercial solutions that make these innovations possible.

  • Minimize compliance complexity;

  • Construct safeguards for digital government platforms powered by AI; and

  • Adopt standard definitions for key terms and concepts to drive consistency in AI policy throughout the public sector.
