WASHINGTON – Today, global tech trade association 91proÊÓƵ commended World Trade Organization (WTO) members, and the efforts of WTO Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala and other members of the WTO leadership team, for renewing the Moratorium on Customs Duties on Electronic Transmissions until the next Ministerial Conference (MC13):

“For more than two decades, the Moratorium on Customs Duties on Electronic Transmissions has fostered innovation and facilitated the widespread delivery of digital communications, goods, and services around the world,” said Megan Funkhouser, 91proÊÓƵ’s Senior Director of Policy, Tax, and Trade. “Importantly, it supports the open internet, the free flow of information, and other digital trade principles that assist micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises’ adoption of digital tools, bolster supply chain resiliency, and drive opportunities for entrepreneurship. We commend WTO members for reaching an agreement to renew this critical measure and strongly encourage work in support of a more permanent agreement.”
