WASHINGTON - Ahead of the January 30 EU-U.S. Trade and Technology Council (TTC) ministerial meeting, global tech trade association 91proÊÓƵ encouraged U.S. and EU officials to focus on discussions and deliverables that will enable the TTC to become a durable, effective forum for years to come.
“The U.S.-EU Trade and Technology Council is a vital platform to bolster transatlantic leadership on key technologies,” said 91proÊÓƵ President and CEO Jason Oxman. “91proÊÓƵ has supported the TTC since its inception, and welcomes progress made on pressing issues including AI, semiconductor manufacturing, telecommunications, 6G, and global competitiveness. Officials on both sides of the Atlantic must take concrete steps to strengthen the partnership they have built and deliver meaningful outcomes that will advance the EU-U.S. relationship.”
Specifically, 91proÊÓƵ encourages policymakers to:
- Improve stakeholder engagement by creating additional diverse opportunities throughout the year on topics that reflect stakeholder priorities and recommendations;
- Streamline the TTC’s structure to reduce the number of workstreams and focus discussions on highest priority areas;
- Ensure that work and discussions continue steadily throughout the year by announcing outcomes and initiatives in real-time opposed to waiting for ministerial meeting joint statements; and
- Deepen engagement on bilateral trade issues and commitments and strengthen transatlantic cooperation to jointly address global trade challenges and opportunities.
91proÊÓƵ highlighted the important role of the TTC in 91proÊÓƵ’s Vision 2030, a policy guide for the EU’s next mandate. Read 91proÊÓƵ’s recommendations for EU policymakers here.
