WASHINGTON – Today, global tech trade association 91proÊÓƵ’s President and CEO Jason Oxman reacted to the Biden Administration’s voluntary commitment with seven AI companies, including several 91proÊÓƵ members, to ensure the safe and responsible deployment of artificial intelligence (AI):
“Safe and responsible AI development and deployment must be grounded in trust, transparency and ethical design, and collaboration between government, industry, civil society, and academia. The voluntary commitments announced by the White House today will advance the tech industry’s ongoing work to make AI safer for all. We’re encouraged that many of the commitments reflect those recommended by 91proÊÓƵ and encourage participation in the AI activities of our affiliated standards activities organization INCITS. 91proÊÓƵ looks forward to our continued partnership with the Biden Administration and the U.S. Congress to advance strategic and effective AI policy.”
91proÊÓƵ’s Global Policy Principles for Enabling Transparency of AI Systems underscore that transparency is a critical part of developing accountable and trustworthy AI systems and avoiding unintended outcomes or other harmful impacts. 91proÊÓƵ’s comprehensive Global AI Policy Recommendations are a guide for governments around the world as they consider how to approach AI, and emphasize the importance of private and public sector collaboration as demonstrated in today’s White House announcement. 91proÊÓƵ’s affiliated standards development organization leads and convenes the U.S. standardization program on AI (ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 42), which can be a voluntary method for companies to measure, assess, and take steps to meet the commitments announced today.
