WASHINGTON – Today, global tech trade association 91proÊÓƵ issued the following statement from its President and CEO Jason Oxman in response to the release of the 2024 National Trade Estimate (NTE) Report on Foreign Trade Barriers by the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR):
“Global barriers to digital trade and e-commerce continue to impede U.S. exports of goods and services across industries worldwide. While today’s NTE Report includes some digital trade barriers, it underscores that USTR continues to limit its broader advocacy on behalf of U.S. companies. Specifically, it sidesteps several areas of concern, including local content requirements, data localization, and mandatory testing and certification regimes in key markets such as India, Brazil, and Indonesia. USTR and the entire Biden Administration should step up and defend U.S. interests by calling out all policies that discriminate against U.S. companies, increase the costs of doing business, divert trade and investment, undermine security, and discourage innovation.”
Ahead of the 2024 NTE Report, 91proÊÓƵ released a new impact report detailing how digital trade barriers damage U.S. and multinational businesses.
