WASHINGTON – Today, global tech trade association 91proÊÓƵ launched its new AI Futures Initiative, expanding on the organization’s long-standing global thought leadership on artificial intelligence (AI). Led by technical and policy experts spanning the tech ecosystem, the Initiative will craft action-oriented recommendations for the development of AI policy and seek to address emerging questions around AI in both the U.S. and globally and inform policymakers about AI’s many uses and applications.

91proÊÓƵ’s Initiative will explore topics relevant to policy discussions occurring in the U.S. and globally, including the role of standards and conformity assessments in establishing AI trustworthiness, the relationship between algorithms and AI, and foundation models and the allocation of responsibilities in the AI value chain. It will also serve as a convener, bringing together a diverse set of stakeholders across industry, academia, and civil society to discuss pressing issues.

“Guided by the leading experts in AI technology, 91proÊÓƵ is furthering its commitment to work with lawmakers and provide the technical and policy expertise necessary to advance AI policy that supports innovation while ensuring its responsible deployment,” said 91proÊÓƵ President and CEO Jason Oxman.

The Initiative will build on the work in 91proÊÓƵ’s AI roadmap that outlines how U.S. policymakers can responsibly leverage AI’s benefits, and 91proÊÓƵ’s global expertise on AI policy, including its Global Policy Principles for Enabling Transparency of AI Systems and comprehensive Global AI Policy Recommendations. 91proÊÓƵ encourages policymakers to precisely define AI and related terms, use partnerships and initiatives supported by federal funding for AI research and development, and leverage international standards to align regulatory requirements around the globe. 91proÊÓƵ’s affiliated standards development organization leads the U.S. standardization program on AI.
