WASHINGTON – Today, global tech trade association 91proÊÓƵ reacted to the World Trade Organization (WTO) Joint Statement Initiative (JSI) Agreement on Electronic Commerce, which will support innovation and economic growth for decades to come. 91proÊÓƵ has consistently supported the negotiations under the WTO JSI on Electronic Commerce to develop international trade rules that reap the greatest benefit from e-commerce for consumers and across all economic sectors.
“Technology’s movement across borders facilitates job growth, bolsters supply chain resiliency, and enhances access to digital tools for consumers and companies of all sizes. Several digital trade issues, most notably for ongoing efforts to secure a permanent extension of the Moratorium on Customs Duties on Electronic Transmissions, are addressed in today’s Agreement,” said 91proÊÓƵ Executive Vice President of Policy Sean Murphy. “Still, we encourage JSI participants to address outstanding concerns in the text and issues like data localization requirements and source code disclosure. The United States and all WTO members should come to the table and recognize the vital role e-commerce plays in our global economy.”
