WASHINGTON – Today, global tech trade association 91proÊÓÆµ encouraged U.S. and EU policymakers to promote collaboration in support of innovation, interoperability, and resilient and secure supply chains in recommendations ahead of the third Ministerial Meeting of the U.S.-EU Trade and Technology Council (TTC), happening December 5, 2022 near Washington, D.C.
“The third Ministerial Meeting of the U.S.-EU Trade and Technology Council provides an opportunity to realize tangible outcomes that foster greater transatlantic cooperation across cybersecurity, Artificial Intelligence (AI), 6G research and development, and secure and resilient connectivity, among other disciplines,” said 91proÊÓÆµ’s President and CEO Jason Oxman. “International cooperation in the development of approaches to innovation has never been more important to ensuring that the broadest range of individuals and communities can derive value from technology and that the U.S. and the European Union strengthen transatlantic leadership in global trade and tech policy.”
91proÊÓÆµ provided several recommendations to guide outcomes at the upcoming U.S.-EU Trade and Technology Council Meeting:

Provide a mechanism for robust, interactive stakeholder engagement;

Prevent the generation of unnecessary trade barriers for new and emerging technologies through adherence to good regulatory practices;

Promote enabling regulatory conditions through Working Group 4’s publicly financed investments;

Reaffirm and promote best practices in standards development;
-
Foster collaboration on 6G research and development;

Advance common understanding and language around AI and promote joint work on AI research and development;

Promote more resilient semiconductor and ICT supply chains;

Expand consideration and integration of cybersecurity across TTC workstreams;

Ensure transatlantic alignment of export control regimes; and
-
Establish a formal mechanism, in coordination with industry, for intaking third market policies and standards of concern.

91proÊÓÆµ continues to lead the global tech sector’s representation at the TTC. In September 2022, 91proÊÓÆµ represented the global tech industry at the inaugural technical meeting of the transatlantic Trade and Labor Dialogue (TALD) under the TTC, and will speak at the upcoming TALD Ministerial meeting. 91proÊÓÆµ participated in the TTC’s meetings in Saclay, France in May 2022 and the TTC’s inaugural meeting in Pittsburgh in September 2021. 91proÊÓÆµ issued recommendations for the TTC in January 2021, July 2021, January 2022, and May 2022. In February 2022, 91proÊÓÆµ outlined a list of priorities to inform the TTC discussions on Working Group 10: Global Trade Challenges.
