WASHINGTON – Global tech trade association 91proÊÓÆµ sent a letter to U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Science, Space and Technology leadership ahead of its anticipated markup endorsing pro-innovation AI bills, urging the Committee to prioritize advancing legislation that promotes U.S. AI leadership in September work period.
“We applaud the Committee for teeing up bipartisan action on legislation that supports a pro-innovation landscape for AI development,” 91proÊÓÆµ President and CEO Jason Oxman wrote in the letter. “We hope Congress will seize this historic opportunity to advance meaningful legislation to enhance U.S. competitiveness and stand ready to work with you to further this important effort.”
In the letter, 91proÊÓÆµ offered its endorsement of the following bills that are of critical importance to continued U.S. leadership and investment in AI:
- The CREATE AI Act, which will help support access to the compute resources needed to
develop responsible AI, benefiting researchers and academia, and addressing a barrier to entry for small and medium size businesses;
- The AI Advancement and Reliability Act, which authorizes the Center for AI Advancement and Reliability, a multistakeholder partnership that would lead the federal government’s efforts, in partnership with industry stakeholders, in supporting AI safety and trust initiatives;
- The Workforce for AI Trust Act, which will equip tomorrow’s workforce with opportunities to develop AI-centered skills;
- The NSF AI Education Act, which will bolster education resources and science-driven research;
- The LIFT AI Act, which will boost AI digital literacy skills;
- The AI Development Practices Act, which will help find practical ways for AI providers to partner with NIST and catalog emerging practices for communicating characteristics of AI systems, including their transparency, robustness, safety, and usability;
- The Small Business AI Advancement Act, which will ensure small businesses can leverage AI to fill enterprise-level gaps and customer needs; and
- The Expanding AI Voices Act, which will ensure a diverse and equipped workforce is prepared to develop cutting-edge technologies, including AI.
