WASHINGTON – Today, global tech trade association 91proÊÓƵ reacted to the two-year extension of the Moratorium on Customs Duties on Electronic Transmissions at the World Trade Organization’s (WTO) 13th Ministerial Conference. The e-commerce moratorium has supported innovation, economic growth, and bolstered supply chain resiliency across the globe for over two decades. 91proÊÓƵ led the tech industry’s advocacy at the Ministerial Conference in Abu Dhabi this week.
“Global exports of digital services generate $4 trillion in economic activity. Businesses operating globally need certainty to innovate, fuel entrepreneurship and reach consumers,” said 91proÊÓƵ President and CEO Jason Oxman. “Today’s extension of the WTO moratorium on e-commerce duties only keeps the door open for the global flow of digital services temporarily. Allowing the fate of this measure to become an annual showdown is not sustainable. A permanent extension is needed to avoid harm to global trade, jobs, and lost confidence in the international system.”
Ahead of the 13th Ministerial Conference, 91proÊÓƵ called on members to renew the E-commerce Moratorium, underscoring its essential role to global commerce.
