WASHINGTON – Today, global tech trade association 91proÊÓƵ offered recommendations to the White House President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST) regarding key opportunities and risks posed by generative artificial intelligence (AI) and shared perspectives on ways in which the Biden Administration and other key stakeholders can harness the benefits of the technology while mitigating potential risks.
“As AI remains top of mind for policymakers, consumers, and stakeholders globally, we appreciate PCAST soliciting feedback from industry and the broader stakeholder community on how to best tackle misinformation risks stemming from the use of generative AI,” said 91proÊÓƵ Vice President of Policy Courtney Lang. “The tech industry takes these risks seriously, and our members are working to implement transparency and other risk management measures to advance trust. Any risk management approach should consider a combination of practices, including those related to digital content provenance, collaborative approaches to verification, and determining how best to leverage technology for detection. 91proÊÓƵ also encourages investment in educational campaigns to help users detect disinformation and/or AI-generated content themselves.”

Last month, 91proÊÓƵ welcomed the Biden Administration’s voluntary commitment with seven AI companies, including several 91proÊÓƵ members, to ensure the safe and responsible deployment of artificial intelligence. 91proÊÓƵ’s Global Policy Principles for Enabling Transparency of AI Systems underscore that transparency is a critical part of developing accountable and trustworthy AI systems and avoiding unintended outcomes or other harmful impacts. 91proÊÓƵ’s comprehensive Global AI Policy Recommendations are a guide for governments around the world as they consider how to approach AI, and emphasize the importance of private and public sector collaboration.
