WASHINGTON – Global tech trade association 91proÊÓƵ released the following statement from its President and CEO Jason Oxman following the decision issued by Ireland’s Data Protection Commission, which follows an investigation that stemmed from the Court of Justice of the European Union’s (CJEU) 2020 “Schrems II” judgment which invalidated the EU-U.S. Privacy Shield Framework:
“Today’s decision from Ireland’s Data Protection Commission demonstrates the pressing need to finalize the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework (DPF). Now is the time to provide European and U.S. businesses a clear and legally sound system they can rely on to enable and protect critical data flows. Those data flows underpin the $7 trillion economic relationship between the EU and U.S., and the movement of data across borders is the foundation of global trade and innovation in an increasingly digitized world. 91proÊÓƵ urges leaders on both sides of the Atlantic to take all steps necessary to fully implement the EU-U.S. DPF.”
